A startup web design agency for founders with something to launch

We're a startup web design agency building the site you launch on. It says what you do in one sentence, turns launch traffic into sign-ups and customers, and gets found by people searching for the problem you solve. You own it and change it yourself.

Your website is where a startup's revenue starts

Every launch post, warm intro and newsletter mention sends people to one address. First customers and investors both decide there, and most of them visit once.

  1. 01

    More of them sign up

Pages laid out on how people decide: what it is, who it's for, and the next step right beside it, whether that's a sign-up, a demo or the waitlist.

  2. 02

    More people find you

Built to Google's own guidance for speed, phones and page structure, so people searching for the problem you solve land on your site.

Good web design for startups does both from the day the site goes live. See how we design and build websites.

Say what you do before anyone scrolls

A customer, an investor and someone you want to hire all open the same homepage. Each decides in seconds whether they get it.

Early sites often lead with a slogan that could sell anything. We work out with you the one sentence that says what your product does and who it's for, put it first, and give each reader a clear next step.

You approve every word before it goes live.

What your product does, and who it's for.

  • A customer

Needs to see what it does and that it's built for them.

Next step Sign up, join the waitlist or book a demo

  • An investor

Needs to grasp the product and who buys it without opening your deck.

Next step See who's building it

  • Someone you want to hire

Needs to see what you're building and why it's worth joining.

    Next step See open roles

Launch now and add pages as you grow

Your product isn't finished, and your site doesn't need to be. Launch with the pages you need now, then add to the same site as you raise and grow. Same design, same address, nothing thrown away.

One page that starts the list

What the product is, who it's for and a form to join the waitlist. Enough to collect interest while you're still building.

Everything a first customer checks

A product page, pricing, and a sign-up or demo booking, connected to the tools you already use so every lead lands where you work.

What investors look up before the meeting

A team page, the traction you're ready to share and your press, in the same design they've already seen.

Pages that bring in new people

A page for each use case or customer type, plus articles that reach people searching for the problem you solve.

Nothing gets rebuilt along the way. Pages built from blocks your site already has, you add yourself. A new kind of page we design, like your first use-case page or the blog, is quoted in writing first, like your first build.

Change your pitch without filing a ticket

Your positioning will change, probably more than once before the next raise. When it does, change the site the same day instead of waiting in someone's queue.

  • You make the edits

Log in to the simple editor we set up for you, pick the page, change the words or swap a photo, and publish. No code, no ticket, no change order. New pages come from the blocks your site already has.

  • You own all of it

The domain, the code and the hosting accounts are in your name. Take the site to any developer you like, whenever you like.

  • Fast on a phone, nothing to patch

We build on Astro, a modern framework that makes every page ahead of time as plain HTML, and we size every photo for the screen it's on. Your site loads quickly, with none of the plugins, updates and slowdowns that come with WordPress, drag-and-drop site builders and other one-size-fits-all platforms.

From first call to launch

Five steps from the first conversation to a live site. At each one you know what happens next and what we need from you.

  1. A call about your launch

Thirty minutes on a video call: what you're launching, who it's for and the date you're working toward.

  2. A fixed quote in writing

The pages, what the site connects to and one fixed price, in writing within a week of the call. No hourly meter.

  3. Design, with the words written together

We design the pages and work out the words with you, and you watch it come together on a preview link.

  4. You approve every page

Nothing goes live until you've signed off on every page and every word.

  5. Live on your domain

    • Old page addresses redirected, so visitors and Google land in the right place
    • Your sign-up, waitlist or demo calendar connected
    • Analytics in place from the first visit

Two of our recent sites, Cahoots Tavern and Amity Climbs, went from first call to live in 18 and 21 days.

Tell us your launch date on the call and we'll say plainly whether it fits.

Who builds your site

Bullfinch is two people, Kyle and Katie Rutten. No account manager sits between you and the work: the two of us do it ourselves, and you talk to us directly.

  • Kyle Rutten, lit by his laptop screen in a dark room, in a black and white portrait

    Design and build

    Kyle Rutten

Kyle has made websites since he was 14, and he designs and builds every one of ours himself. He builds software too, so the hand-off from your site to your sign-up, waitlist or demo calendar is set up properly.

    Operations and schedule

    Katie Rutten

Katie runs operations and keeps every project on its schedule. She's who you hear from about dates and invoices, so you always know where your launch stands.

We started Bullfinch with no office and no investors, so we treat your budget like it's our own. More about the two of us

What startup website design costs

Most sites we build cost $5,000 to $40,000. Where yours lands comes down to how many pages it needs, what it connects to, and whether we write the copy from scratch.

$5,000 to $40,000

  • Toward the low end

    A focused launch site

A few pages that say what you do and who it's for, with your waitlist or sign-up form connected.

  • Toward the high end

A full site, written from scratch

Many pages, with your product's sign-up, demo calendar and analytics connected and all the copy written with you.

Either way, it's one fixed price, in writing, before work starts, so you can plan your runway around it.

Questions founders ask before they book

  • What does a startup web design agency cost, and will it fit our runway?

Ours is one fixed price, agreed in writing before any work starts. Most sites land between $5,000 and $40,000, and a focused launch site with a waitlist sits near the low end. There are no surprise invoices: anything you add later is quoted the same way first.

  • Can the site be live before our launch or raise?

Yes, if the date fits the pages you need, and we'll tell you before you sign anything. Two of our recent sites went from first call to live in under a month: Cahoots Tavern in 18 days and Amity Climbs in 21. Bring your date to the call and you'll get a plain answer, not a guess.

  • Our pitch will change. Will we pay for a rebuild?

No, a new pitch means new words, not a new site. You rewrite headlines and sections yourself, and new pages come from blocks the site already has. Only a new kind of page or a full redesign costs extra, and it's quoted in writing first.

  • Will we need a developer for every change, and who owns the site?

No developer needed, and the whole site is yours. Anyone on your team can edit the words and images without touching code. Every account the site runs on is in your name, so nothing is held back if you ever leave us.

  • Will it work with our sign-up, waitlist, demo calendar and analytics?

Yes, the site connects to the tools you already use, and we set up a simple one where you have none. That covers your sign-up or waitlist form, the email list it feeds, your demo-booking calendar, and the analytics that count visits and sign-ups. Each new sign-up or booking lands in your inbox or the tool your team already works in, from the day you launch.

  • Do you do MVP website development?

Yes, if you mean the website for your MVP: the launch site, the waitlist and the sign-up. If your product itself is a web app, Kyle also builds custom software, quoted separately from the site. Tell us about both on the call.

  • Have you built a startup website before?

Not one we can show yet. What carries over is everything else: the same process, the same fixed price and the same ownership as every site we build. You can see that work in our case studies.

Bring us your launch date

Every week your site isn't ready, the launch traffic, sign-ups and investor looks you've earned land on a page that doesn't explain what you do.

On a 30-minute video call we

  • Look at the site you have and what you're launching
  • Say what we'd build and when it could be live
  • Show you how the fixed quote works

If we aren't the right startup web design agency for your date, we'll say so on the call.
